Vacation Blues
So, two days ago, we welcomed back our kid from a vacation that left him totally disoriented. He didn't recognized me nor Brian when they landed at the airport. He didn't want anywhere near us at all. Although he calmed down a bit subsequently, putting him to bed that night proved to be a huge struggle. We had to cajole him to sleep. I know that sounds awful notwithstanding how much fun he had with our family, relatives and friends overseas. But, he's barely 15-month old. Never been away with us, his parents. And it doesn't help that he's naturally clingy. Isn't used to being around with people, even kids his age. Such is the inconvenience being in a foreign turf. The challenges in our every day.
Who will babysit? Is he watching too much TV? Is he having enough playtime? Oh, playdates. Find a kid he can play with.
Ain't easy. But we're trying our best to make things work.
I feel sorry for the grannies who exerted much of their powers for Geb to give them a chance to take care of him. Cuddle him. Snug him around. Play with him. Or give him a bath. Let them feed him, at least. We had high hopes he would not give his Auntie Fritzie a hard time. But the blame is not on this poor baby, of course. Nobody is to blame.
We probably spent a fortune calling them everyday. Or every other day. And it's heartbreaking almost every time. While we're thankful he didn't get allergies (what with a strange weather, water or food perhaps), major trouble was he totally lost his appetite for food. He won't eat at all. He basically relied heavily on milk. And milk alone. Well, he loved banana too. So, I'll throw banana in, if that counts.
We're so happy he's back. And much happier for his opportunity to spend time with our dear folks back home. His next trip to the Philippines will be so much better! Definitely.
